Unit 2 revision

Use annotations for the question where they ask to draw a pre-production document/ diagram.

Storyboard conventions (use these when drawing it out in an exam- minimum 5 conventions):

  • Number each box
  • Say how long (time) each shot lasts: make sure it adds up to the time the exam tells you
  • Camera shots, angles, movements
  • Brief description of what's happening in each shot
  • Draw something linking to the description
  • Something to do with music
  • Something to do with special effects (sfx)

Mindmap conventions:

  • Topic in the middle
  • Branches
  • Nodes, sub-nodes
  • Justifications
Wireframes:
  • Logo place holder
  • Header and footer
  • Primary and secondary image placeholder
  • sample text/ body copy
  • hex codes- what will appear when clicking on a button.

Mood board conventions (unlikely to come up):
  • Draw boxes and use heavy annotations
Sitemaps- not a visual layout, layout for a coder:
Biggest box- home page button
Login/ sign up
Basket
Contact- social media and email/ phone
Women, men- will be linked so its easy to change between the two pages
More general content to come off the branches

Final question: between 16-20 marks

ALWAYS an evaluation structure

P1: Advantage- showcase your knowledge and understanding of the pre-prod document/ area
P2: Disadvantage- what info is missing? is there another pre-prod tool that can fill in missing info
P3: Advantage
P4: Disadvantage
Conclusion: overall evaluation linking back to the question and brief.

Legal and ethical issues
Data protection: tighter with GDPR
Freedom of Information act: allows access to public information
Copy right: protecting content you've created
Intellectual property: protects ideas, logos, slogans, etc. The company you work for will own the rights to these ideas if you sign a contract.

Explain 2 potential legal problems that Daniel might have when planning his project.
Data protection act, because the website stores data from users. This must be stored safely and correctly.
Need to ensure that you have the permission when using designs, logos, and slogans that belong to others- intellectual property- he can face legal issues.

Ethical considerations

Scenario: A clothing app for online shopping
Representation of diversity: race and ethnicity and use of different languages

Scenario: A TV documentary about refugees
Filming vulnerable groups: children - need permission

Pre-production docs
Storyboard
Advantages: clear, allow your team to understand your ideas, lays outs the story and shot type etc.
Disadvantages: no script, time-consuming
Mind map
Advantages: a clear way to lay out all your ideas,
Disadvantage:
Site map
Blue sky thinking

Project management

Project management is a tool used to track progress, deadlines, milestones, contingencies, and tasks
1. Gantt chart- typically made on excel and used to map out a project
2. To-do list- tasks you need to do and when
3. Blue sky thinking

Legal issues

Defamation act: cannot say or print anything which harms someone's reputation which is untrue
Example: Johnny Depp case- libel, the Sun said he was a sexual assaulter and got dropped from films but it was obviously untrue, Rebel Wilson: people said she lied about her age and degree/ education and it wasn't true so she sued them and won.
Types:
Slander: spoken
Libel: written

Human Rights Act: Values that keep society fair, just and equal (1998- UK)
Journalists don't have to reveal their sources
The police cannot keep your DNA, finger print etc if you're found innocent in a case

Pre-production documents

Prototype: an early model of what the product is intended to be, can be physical or online
Adv. Cheap, allows early testing of the product to ensure the product meets the client and user needs, as well as has functionality- can conduct market research by focus groups
Dis. doesn't include the stylistic elements required in the final product
Can be paired with
Mood board: provides missing colours, materials and words

Shooting script
Adv.
Dis.
Can be paired with
Storyboard: provides visuals
