Proposal documents

Proposal/ pitch

Proposal: written down
Pitch: presented

  • Used to sell an idea to a client or boss.
  • Initial idea for the project, not developed, the written proposal is often more detailed as they need to get the idea across without speaking.
  • Audience for a proposal: management team, technical language
  • Includes: target audience, content ideas, resource requirements, costs and timescale outlined
Project outline
  • Initial document to key members of the production team
  • Includes enough detail so the team knows what they're making
  • Used as a basis for all other pre-production documents by the production team
  • Includes: details of narrative/ content, resource requirements, budget limitations, timeline of production
Treatments
  • Contains more details than a project outline
  • Exact structure depends on the type of media
  • Has two specific audiences: production team uses it for a reference point. Vital in large productions as communications are difficult- makes sure they don't go off track. Also basis for all other detailed pre-prod docs.
